Few debuts define a sound as clearly as this one. As Dr. Dre’s younger brother, Warren G could have been overshadowed, but instead he carved his own lane with a smoother, more laid-back take on G-funk. The title track “Regulate,” with Nate Dogg, became an instant West Coast anthem—equal parts street narrative and radio smash—and set the tone for the whole record. Cuts like “This D.J.” and “Do You See” showcased Warren’s ear for melodic basslines, airy keys, and hooks that stuck. While not as hard-hitting as The Chronic or Doggystyle, Regulate… G Funk Era proved Warren could carry the family sound on his own terms, delivering a platinum classic that helped take G-funk national.
