Lyfe ’N’ Tyme is the only full-length album by The B.U.M.S. (Brothas Unda Madness), an Oakland-based duo active in the mid-1990s underground. The album gained attention through word of mouth and independent circulation rather than a major promotional push. “Elevation (Free My Mind)” became the group’s signature track and the record’s main point of recognition. “Take a Look Around” further established the album’s presence, reinforcing its reputation among underground hip-hop listeners. The record is best remembered as a strong example of mid-90s Oakland rap that earned lasting respect despite remaining outside the mainstream.
