One of the stranger crossovers of the early ’90s, pairing R.E.M. with hip-hop legend KRS-One (Boogie Down Productions) on Out of Time’s opening track. The 12" stretches the concept further with remixes by Hurby Luv Bug (best known for producing Salt-N-Pepa) and Monster(KRS-One himself using Soho's "Hot Music" beat that push it into hip-hop and club territory, a left-field experiment that doesn’t always land but makes for an interesting artifact. For R.E.M. die-hards and crate-diggers alike, the novelty of Michael Stipe trading lines with KRS and the rare remixes make it a curiosity worth having.
