After a few uneven years and mounting criticism, he recaptured the hunger and sharpness of his early work. The production—by Large Professor, DJ Premier, L.E.S., Salaam Remi, and others—brought back that gritty, sample-based sound while pushing it forward. “Ether” reignited his rivalry with Jay-Z, “One Mic” showed his depth and control, and “Got Ur Self A...” gave him another anthem. A bold reminder that Nas could still stand among rap’s elite when fully locked in.
