12" single from Large Professor’s Main Source, released in 1990 and a perfect example of how he flipped jazz into hip-hop gold. Built on Donald Byrd’s “Think Twice,” the track set the tone for Breaking Atoms with its mix of smooth groove and hard truths. The beat is considered by many as one of the crowning achievements of the boom bap era, a flawless balance of melody and knock. Large Pro’s calm-but-cutting delivery matched the production perfectly, making this one of the most essential singles of early ’90s East Coast rap.
