An overlooked West Coast gem from the early ’90s, this album leaned heavily on jazz samples and grooves rather than the gangsta sound dominating L.A. at the time. “Proof Is in the Puddin’” and “The Whole Kit and Caboodle” were the singles, built on McCoy Tyner and Gene Harris samples that gave the record its smoky, laid-back feel. Member Cee-Versatile also added live trumpet, adding another layer to the sound. Once slept-on, it’s now appreciated as a creative and distinctive piece of early ’90s jazz rap.
