The second KMD album, led by a still-unknown Zev Love X before he became MF DOOM. The record was completed and scheduled for release with the single “What a N__ Know,” but was pulled by Elektra after controversy surrounding the album’s cover art, which coincided with the backlash to Cop Killer despite having no similar lyrical content.
Instead of a full release, the album circulated only in extremely limited form among industry insiders. For more than a decade it existed as a hip-hop holy grail before finally receiving an official release. It lived up to the hype and stands as one of the strongest records of its era, while also remaining a true “what if”—had it come out on time, KMD and Zev Love X likely would have seen greater immediate acclaim, but the path to MF DOOM may never have happened.
