Second album from the Chicago producer-turned-MC, released in 2005 and a major leap in ambition after The College Dropout. Co-produced with Jon Brion, it layers live instrumentation and orchestral touches over Kanye’s chipmunk-soul foundation, expanding his sound without losing the hooks. Tracks like “Gold Digger” and “Touch the Sky” dominated radio, while deeper cuts like “Gone” and “Crack Music” showed his growing range. A critical and commercial high point that cemented Kanye as one of the most innovative voices of the era.
