A deliberate step away from his radio-friendly hits, this LP found Heavy D linking with cousin Pete Rock, DJ Premier, and others for a tougher, jazz-soaked sound. The production is raw but polished, giving Heavy D the space to flex more hardcore without losing his charisma. Tracks like “Blue Funk” and “Truthful” show the shift, while “A Buncha N****s” lines him up alongside Guru, Busta Rhymes, Rob-O, and Biggie in one of B.I.G.’s earliest appearances. An overlooked gem that proved Heavy could thrive outside the crossover lane.
