The first part of De La Soul’s planned AOI series, Mosaic Thump brought them into the new millennium with sharper production and a deep lineup of guests. The group’s wit and social commentary were still intact, but the record leaned more toward bounce and accessibility. “Oooh” with Redman became the standout single, while “All Good?” with Chaka Khan and “Thru Ya City” added range. With beats from Jay Dee and others, the album showed De La could evolve without losing their identity.
