The breakout album from Native Tongues duo Dres and Mista Lawnge, and one of the collective’s crown jewels. Heavy on jazz samples, they flipped deep crates — from Gene Ammons to John Coltrane — into funky, unpredictable backdrops. “The Choice Is Yours” became a monster hit, while “Flavor of the Month” and “Strobelite Honey” kept the momentum rolling. At the time it stood shoulder to shoulder with De La Soul and Tribe, and in hindsight it’s clear this was one of the sharpest, most creative albums to come out of the Native Tongues era.
